Compliance readiness for Cincinnati suppliers, practices and financial firms

IT compliance support helps a Cincinnati business meet the technical requirements of the rules it operates under, such as CMMC for defense and aerospace suppliers, HIPAA for healthcare, PCI DSS for card payments and the FTC Safeguards Rule for many financial firms. Cincy Support implements the controls, keeps the evidence and prepares you for assessments, without acting as your auditor.

Compliance support and readiness

Depending on what you do, that might mean CMMC readiness for aerospace and defense suppliers, HIPAA safeguards for medical practices and their vendors, PCI DSS for merchants, or the safeguards rule that applies to many financial firms. We handle the technical controls and gather the evidence each framework expects.

For Ohio businesses, we can also help assemble a written cybersecurity program aligned to a recognized framework, which is the foundation the state's Data Protection Act looks for. We support readiness and documentation only. We do not certify you, audit you or give legal advice, and we will say so whenever a question crosses that line.

CMMC along the Evendale corridor

GE Aerospace's Evendale operation and the wider aerospace base around it rely on machine shops, coating specialists, engineering firms and distributors throughout Sharonville, West Chester, Fairfield and Northern Kentucky. Some of those suppliers receive drawings and specifications marked as controlled unclassified information, and Defense Department contracts have begun to specify CMMC levels as the program phases in.

We start by tracing where controlled information arrives, usually through a customer portal or email, and where it is stored and processed. Limiting it to a defined set of users, devices and cloud services keeps scope manageable. Then we put the NIST SP 800-171 controls in place inside that boundary, help draft the system security plan, and maintain a plan of action for remaining gaps ahead of any third-party assessment.

Safeguards for finance and insurance

Cincinnati is home to major banks and insurers, and plenty of smaller advisory firms, mortgage brokers, tax preparers and agencies grew up around them. The FTC's Safeguards Rule, strengthened in 2021 and amended in 2024 to require reporting certain breaches to the FTC, covers many non-bank financial businesses such as mortgage brokers, tax preparers and auto dealers. It expects a written security program, a qualified individual in charge, MFA, encryption and regular testing.

Licensed insurance agencies answer instead to state regulators, and Ohio adopted an insurance data security law modeled on the NAIC framework. For either group we supply the technical parts: MFA on systems holding customer information, encryption on laptops and email, access logging, vulnerability scanning and secure disposal of old devices. We also help assemble the inventory and risk assessment, and coordinate with whoever owns your written policies.

HIPAA, PCI and the Ohio program

Healthcare anchored by Cincinnati Children's, UC Health, TriHealth and The Christ Hospital supports a large community of specialty practices, therapy groups, home health agencies and billing companies. Each must meet HIPAA's security rule, starting with a risk analysis. Restaurants and retailers across the region, from Findlay Market vendors to suburban boutiques, accept cards and fall under PCI DSS through their merchant agreements.

Much of the technical work overlaps across frameworks, so we map it and do each control once, counting it wherever it applies. For Ohio businesses, that same body of work can form the written program the state's Data Protection Act refers to. Our role is readiness and documentation. Assessment decisions come from authorized assessors, and legal conclusions belong with your attorney.

Compliance support: common questions

Our Cincinnati tax prep office is tiny. Does the FTC Safeguards Rule apply to us?

Very likely. The FTC treats tax preparers as financial institutions under the rule, and the IRS separately expects preparers to keep a written information security plan. Firms holding information on fewer than 5,000 consumers are exempt from a few requirements, such as the written risk assessment and annual report, but the core safeguards still apply.

How long does CMMC Level 2 readiness take for a West Chester machine shop?

It depends heavily on how much of the business touches controlled information and how mature current practices are. Shops that keep that information in a small, defined enclave generally move faster than those where it is scattered across shared drives and email. We give a timeline after a scoping review, not before.

Does Kentucky have a data privacy law that affects Cincinnati-area companies?

Kentucky's Consumer Data Protection Act took effect on January 1, 2026, but it only reaches businesses processing personal data of a large number of Kentucky consumers, so most small firms fall outside it. Kentucky also has its own breach notification statute. If you have customers or staff south of the river, your attorney can confirm which obligations apply.
